Benefit Day Tuesday 01/12 for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) January 8, 2010

BENEFIT DAY

Every Tuesday Cupcake Jones donates 5% of total sales to a different local non profit organization.

This week, our beneficiary is CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates. This organization, and their incredible devoted volunteers, are AMAZING to me….

Here is a bit about them from their website:

“We are advocates for the best interests of children who have been abused or neglected and are under the protection of the Juvenile Courts in Oregon’s Multnomah and Washington Counties.

Our purpose is to secure a safe and permanent family for each child as quickly as possible. We dedicate our resources to recruiting, training and supporting citizen volunteers in order to provide quality advocacy to as many children as we can.”

Casa volunteers must commit to 10 to 20 hours a month for 1 1/2 to 2 years. That is an amazing commitment to the children they serve and their work on behalf of these children is SO important. 

Please consider ordering cupcakes on Tuesday to help out CASA. Any orders placed and paid for on Tuesday as well as any cupcakes sold in store on Tuesday count toward their donation.

Benefit Day Tuesday 12/29 for “Literary Arts” December 28, 2009

Every Tuesday Cupcake Jones donates 5% of sales to a different non profit organization. This week our beneficiary is “Literary Arts“. You know them for Portland Arts and Lectures, the Oregon Book Awards, and the Writers in Schools programs. 

You know you need cupcakes for that New Years Eve Party so order them Tuesday and you’ll be helping out this awesome organization!

Here’s a bit more about them from their website:

“Our story at Literary Arts begins in 1984 with a small lecture series designed to bring leading authors and cultural thinkers to Portland, which was hardly a dot on the literary map. Within four years, demand for tickets moved Portland Arts & Lectures to the 2,700–seat concert hall at which it currently resides. Now a Portland tradition, the series brings the brightest minds of our day to present original talks about literature, art, history and contemporary culture before one of the largest lecture audiences in the country.

In 1993, we joined with the Oregon Institute of Literary Arts to support and celebrate Oregon writers and publishers. This new chapter brought the Oregon Book Awardsand Oregon Literary Fellowships, through which we have honored nearly 500 Oregon writers and publishers and distributed more than a half–million dollars in fellowships and awards.

In 1996, we started Writers in the Schools (WITS) to cultivate young readers and writers, and support Oregon authors, through residencies in the public schools. The program has grown to employ 25 Oregon writers each year, who teach semester–long writing workshops in all ten Portland public high schools and several alternative programs.

In 1997, we made literature a part of commuters’ everyday lives with Poetry In Motion®, which displays artfully designed poem cards on buses and lightrail trains throughout the Portland metro area.

In 1998, we introduced the Oregon Book Awards Author Tour, presenting readings by award-winning authors and finalists in rural and underserved communities throughout the state. In 2001, we began Poetry Downtown, bringing world–renowned poets to Portland to read from and discuss their work in a four–part series. In 2004, we brought short fiction to the stage through Verb: Literature in Performance. And in 2005, we offered Delve: Readers’ Seminars, an intimate way for community members to connect around classic works of literature.

In all, our programs reach more than 12,000 writers, readers, teachers and students across the state each year.”

Benefit Day Tuesday 12/22/09 for “Our House” of Portland December 21, 2009

Every Tuesday, Cupcake Jones donates 5% of our total sales to a different local non profit organization. This week our beneficiary is an organization that is very near and dear to our hearts, Our House of Portland.

Since 1988, Our House has been a residential care facility that provides services for people with HIV/AIDS.  Residents work with skilled professionals in nursing, social work and occupational therapy. 

At Our House, some residents regain their health and become independent enough to be discharged.  Others remain at Our House for continued intensive services, maintenance services or palliative care. 

    * Resident capacity: 14
    * 24 Hour Skilled Nursing Services
    * Intensive HIV/AIDS Clinical Services
    * On site Social Work and Occupational Therapy services

Cupcake Jones is a long time supporter of Our House and we are so excited to support them with a Benefit Day.

NATIONAL CUPCAKE DAY and a Benefit Day December 13, 2009

Every year, there is a lengthy discussion online about when National Cupcake Day is. We love holiday flavors around here so we settled on the one in December; December 15th as a matter of fact. It also happens to be a Tuesday so it’s a Benefit Day too, for Make a Wish Foundation! (We will donate 5% of sales all day to Make A Wish Foundation!!!!!)

What does it mean that we are celebrating National Cupcake Day? Glad you asked! Lots of fun stuff that day…

1) All day long, every 15th transaction is free! (Up to $36 value). Why, because it’s on the 15th, silly. (Includes both phone and walk in orders)

2) Come in and enter our drawing for free t-shirts, cupcake gift certificates, onesies, and more! GRAND PRIZE DRAWING for a night out on the town, ON US! Two tickets to a 2009 – 2010 Portland Center Stage Production*, one night at Hotel Monaco, a Bottle of Wine, and Dinner at Fish Grotto.

Every Tuesday, we donate 5% of sales to a different no profit organization. This Tuesday December 1,  our beneficiary is Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Here is a bit about them:

“Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington provides a “home away from home” for families and their seriously ill children who travel far to receive treatment at Portland hospitals, and awards grants to non-profit organizations that offer children’s immunizations and dental care.

To accomplish all of this, we rely on the generosity of thousands of donors, the ingenuity of local volunteers, and the dedication of our staff.”

This week, our beneficiary is “Metropolitan Family Service“.

In the post-World War II era, United Way recommended that a non-sectarian family counseling social service agency be established in Portland, Oregon. In 1950 Metropolitan Family Service — then Family Counseling Service — opened its doors 
in response to that recommendation and local area social concerns.

Over the last century Metropolitan Family Service has moved from a single service agency to an agency that provides multiple distinct, but related services that meet the ever-changing needs of the community. Today those services help children succeed, strengthen families and their connections to community, and help older adults live independently.

Our staff of 260 — most of whom work part time — shares our commitment to professionalism and excellence with 1,400 skilled and caring volunteers who contribute 173,000 hours in the Portland, Oregon tri-county area. Metropolitan Family Service makes connections that strengthen the lives of 37,000 low-income individuals and families each year. We provide services at more than 145 sites, including nearly 70 schools.”
